Jiangsu SUYI Design Group is one of China’s leading construction engineering companies.
Established in Nanjing in 2010, SUYI has carried out countless urban development projects for the local
government, with a team of over 300 people spanning across diferent disciplines: urban planning, road
engineering, landscape design, architecture design, water drainage and electrical infrastructure engineering
and more. Basically, SUYI has all it takes to an entire city. From scratch.
About Urban Studio
Urban development projects are typically carried out on the macroscopic level, and all too often the
microscopic human element, the very thing cities should be designed for, ends up forgotten, along with local
ecology. Both things are essential to build livable and sustainable cities, but they need to be properly studied
and embedded in the design process. SUYI Urban Studio was created to bring back these social and
environmental aspects into urban development projects through human-centered research, service design
and other methodologies. Through our work, we aim to spark a new generation of human-centered
innovations that can signifcantly improve the quality of life in Chinese cities.
The Role
Urban development projects are often done on a macroscopic-level and all too often the human element, the
very thing cities should be designed for, gets lost. The core of this role is using service design mindset and
skills to bring back human needs into urban development projects and propose innovative public design
concepts to ensure those needs are addressed and the quality of life improved.
We are looking for a passionate service designer with a strong belief in the power of design and a desire to
improve cities. Key skills for both roles are strong research ability and empathy: the ideal candidate is
someone who knows how to plan research to get around people bias and who does not shy away from
human contact, with a proven ability to get people to talk, listen carefully and relate to people problems. This
will often involve traveling to other cities, such as Nanjing, to conduct feld research.
Main Responsibilities
Your work will mainly involve:
• Doing desk research to understand the project context (geographical data, demographics, history, culture etc.)
• Reframing project scope and challenges, ensuring we are solving the right problems
• Planning research activities and carrying out feld research in various city locations
• Conducting people observation and interviews (either planned or casual)
• Empathizing with citizens and understanding their habits, needs, wants, challenges and aspirations
• Planning and facilitating co-creative workshops with citizens and other stakeholders
• Sense-making and visualizing data from research as well-designed personas, journeys, ecosystem maps etc.
• Sharing your research results with diferent professionals, such as landscape designers and architects
• Generating concepts of city furniture, spaces, landscapes or new service oferings that can address citizens’ needs
• Validating your ideas with actual users through low-fdelity prototyping
• Communicate your work efectively through slides and videos (which may be published on social media)
Additional work will involve side projects such as using service design skills to improve how we work
internally, adapting service design tools to the unique challenges we work on, or to side projects.
Bonus Points
• You have experience studying or working abroad
• Your English is fuent (at least B2 level of the CEFR)
• You have previous work/internship experience on service design research
• You have experience with video editing software (iMovie, Adobe Premiere, After Efects)
• You have experience with 3D modeling and rendering software (Rhino, Sketchup, Keyshot)

你的角色
城市发展项目往往是在宏观层面上进行的，而太多人的因素，这些我们城市应该为之设计的核心，都丢失了。这一角色的核心是利用服务设计思维和技能，将人们的需求带回城市建设项目考量中，并且能够提出十分创新的公共设计概念，以确保这些需求都能被满足，因此提高人们的生活质量。
我们正在寻找一位充满热情的服务设计师，他/她坚信设计拥有的巨大能量，有让我们的城市变得更好的理想。这一角色所必须的关键技能是很强的调研能力和同理心：理想的候选人是一位知道如何制定调研计划来规避人们的偏见，也不害怕去和研究对象交流接触，具有能让人们主动去讲述需求、同时善于倾听和联系实际问题的能力。工作需要经常去别的城市进行实地调研，主要集中在南京地区。
主要职责
您的工作主要包括：
开展桌面研究以了解项目背景（地理数据，人口统计学数据，历史，文化等）
重新界定项目范围和挑战，确保我们正在解决真正的问题
计划研究活动并在各个城市进行实地调研
进行人员观察和访谈（有计划或随意）
对市民具有同理心，了解他们的习惯，需求，挑战和渴望
与市民和其他利益相关者一起计划开展并促进协同创意工作坊
整理研究所得数据并将其可视化，包括精心设计的人物画像，体验旅程，生态系统图等。
与不同的专业人士分享您的研究成果，例如景观设计师和建筑师
生成可满足市民需求的城市家具，空间，景观或新的服务产品概念
通过低保真原型设计，与实际用户验证您的想法
通过幻灯片和视频（可能在社交媒体上发布）有效地传达您的工作
除此之外的工作还将涉及到一些周边项目，例如使用服务设计技能来改进我们内部的工作方式，使服务设计工具适应我们工作中的独特挑战以及周边项目。
