JOB DESCRIPTION

Senior Piping Engineer (Leading Engineer)

Responsibilities:
• Works independently on piping and layout engineering or technical consulting tasks in co-operation with the project team to ensure the quality of designs following instructions and specific time schedules.
• Acts as a discipline leader in a project guiding more junior team members and reviewing the deliverables. Provide planning and direction for other designers in project specific tasks.
• To give any necessary technical assistance to other members of the design team and provide technical reviews of engineering designs and engineering-related documentation produced by others
• Understands inter-disciplinary connections and requirements within the project. To consult with other disciplines to ensure designs are compatible with and have considered all disciplinary requirements
• Review/manage project schedules and resources to ensure products are properly developed and projects remain within budget. Track project scope changes and initiates change orders to management.
• Establish design criteria, to prepare piping specifications and engineering specifications and ensure conformance to all Codes and procedures related to engineering functions, prepare procurement specifications, evaluate bids, and manage datasheets, specifications and technical bid, etc. for various types of piping systems along with any other specified equipment.
• Prepare error-free engineering documents for facilities (e.g., drawings, sketches, instructions, inputs, calculations, analyses, evaluations) according to and bounded by industry codes, standards, and regulations to support client engineering needs.
• Provides senior level technical interface between customer, engineering and sub-contractors to determine root-cause of problems and to develop effective solutions
• Provide engineering design for process piping and utility piping systems in support of Pulp& Paper and Chemical projects. Responsible for 3D piping and equipment models of entire projects.
• Coordinates piping design philosophies with the client, ensures client standards are followed, and communicates complex technical solutions to the client.
• Leads project model reviews and coordinates multidiscipline model elements to ensure model completeness.
• Presents models to client management, operations and engineering and can speak on behalf of all disciplines.
• Coordinates a piping team to issue all project deliverables (isometrics, piping plans, plot plans, MTO's).

Required Qualifications / skills:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Process Engineering from an accredited university.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in the design of piping systems, experience with Layout and stress analysis is preferred.
• Experience working with PDMS /E3D or other 3D engineering software.
• Experience leading piping engineering team for small to mid-capital projects,- can serve as a lead on complex projects or serve as a specialist
• Specialist knowledge of piping discipline and general knowledge of other disciplines and be familiar with applicable codes, standards, and acceptable industry practices.
• Ability to accurately estimate all piping engineering tasks on a project.
• Solid understanding of developing piping specifications and/or performing stress analysis on complex piping systems.
• Demonstrated ability to independently create functional and cost effective designs/processes that meet complex specification requirements.
• Demonstrates good organization and project planning skills.
• Ability to complete work accurately and on time.
• Ability to prepare accurate, effective, complete and easily understood written communications and reports. Demonstrates strong internal presentation skills. Expected to communicate with clients.
• Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
• Demonstrated proficiency in mentoring and project planning. Ability to mentor and manage others.
• Ability to maintain regular attendance as per work schedule agreed with manager (may require working an adjusted work schedule based on project assigned and work overtime if warranted).
